Half Marathon Training

So far I have run 3 5K races and have two more over the next 2 weekends.  I am also training for my first Half Marathon, which will be the Space Coast Half Marathon on November 25th.  When I decided to enter it I had never run farther than 4 miles at a time and only had 7 weeks until the race!
I have now extended my longest run to be 11 Miles and hope to get a 12 mile run in before the race.

My biggest challenge are my knees.  I hurt my left knee back in high school and running tends to hurt if I'm not wearing a knee brace.  On my long runs I have been feeling some pain so at times I need to cut my runs short.  I plan on overcoming this and running a great race though!  Once I run this Half Marathon I have 3 more that I have entered between January and March, so I'll have chances to improve.

How did this all start

My wife Jenny had been talking for quite a while about starting to run.  We finally decided to try running in May 2012. I was going to just run to support her because I believed I would not enjoy it.
We started by using a Couch to 5K program.  The first few days we could barely run for a minute but eventually we were doing more running than walking.  We soon discovered that my running pace is faster than her's.

We entered several 5K races and prepared for them.  Once we completed the first 2 5K races I decided that I needed a longer race so after seeing the Space Coast Half Marathon at the Tower of Terror 10 Miler Expo I decided to enter the race.  I had to have the medal from this race!

Since that time I have been progressively getting longer runs in and have also run more 5k races.  Hopefully I'll be able to complete this Half Marathon in the time I want and then I will knock out the next 3 Half Marathons I have booked as well in even better times!
